Harry Stone tells us about this unforgettable day on the ocean with us. With a 10-year-old shark-fan on board and the excitement of encountering the silky’s, the ocean surprised us and reminded us about the harsh impact humans have on wildlife.

Meet Matthias, a natural teacher and ocean lover. Before beginning his diving career, Matthias was a teacher in Belgium. The desire to change his lifestyle brought him to the south of Mexico as a dive instructor. There, he guided groups interacting with salt water crocodiles. It was these wildlife encounters that made him realize his love for sharing the water with big animals.

This Mobula season has been unforgettable. We ran six different expeditions of approximately one week each and encountered much more than just Mobulas. We encountered blue, humpback and fin whales, orcas and false orcas, bottlenose and common dolphins, and even olive ridley turtles!

May 1st marked the beginning of the veda or fishing ban on sharks and rays in the waters of Baja California Sur. It is common throughout the year to hear the word thrown around at restaurants or seen on government communications, so we thought we’d go deeper and tell you about this practice, what it is, what it means and most importantly: do they work?

We had the pleasure of hosting the Women in Science and Pelagic Shark Retreat this year and it was EPIC! We had orcas, makos, blue sharks, humpbacks and even a whale shark come and surprise us on this six day adventure. Every day was filled with adrenaline, laughter and precious memories. When people ask us what to do when they come to Cabo, we, of course, tell them to get in the water! With the variety of sea life that we have available on our doorstep, there's always something different for you to spot, swim or play with no matter what time of the year you visit us. But if, for whatever reason, you wish to have a dry day, here are some of our favorite activities that you can do.

The months of February and March form together to bring one of the most diversely abundant seasons in Baja of the whole year, and the Latitude team aims to take full advantage by pursuing incredible whale encounters up and down the peninsula.  Although within Mexico it is not permitted to enter the water with any baleen whales, we can still have incredible encounters from deftly maneuvered boats in the hands of our captains and the keen eyes of our experienced whale guides.
